Hi! Welcome back to my blog! My family has a tradition called Golu every year, during Navratri. Navratri is a festival which is celebrated every year for nine days. We usually create a big model of one place, and it changes every year. In the past years, we have done Switzerland, London, Lion King, Bali, Enchanted Forest and Paris. This year, we are doing Iceland. As you know, we went there over the summer, and there were beautiful landscapes everywhere.
This tradition is actually a time where we maximise our creativity. We not only paint but we also build with clay and newspapers, pouring epoxy, cutting styrofoam, glueing things together and more. It’s probably the time of year where we are most creative. Our models also have improved significantly over the years.
Personally, my favorite part of Golu is not actually creating the model. It is obviously really fun but the main reason I find it so enjoyable is because we get to spend time with not only our family, but also friends! Some of our very close friends always make the model with us, and we have a very fun time together, creating the model and hanging out.
I think what makes Golu an amazing family tradition is the fact that not only do we do it with friends and family, but also the fact that we have fun doing it. After all, Oprah Winfrey once said “ Family traditions are the heartbeat of the family, connecting us to our past, present and future" . I absolutely love that quote, because it really shows the importance of family traditions, and how it can create unforgettable experiences and unforgettable friendships. I think family traditions are an important part of life, and I hope all of you also continue to cherish those traditions with your family.
