How To Overcome Challenges And Hardships In Life: Lessons Learned From My Trip To Edinburgh

I love England. Ever since I was little, I have loved coming to London, and exploring the city. I absolutely love various aspects of London, and I would happily say that it is my favourite city in the world. So, for the summer, my family and I travelled to London, and I was extremely excited.

We spent the week exploring various places in London including the Transport museum and the Postal Museum and a couple of days ago, we went on a weekend trip with family friends to Edinburgh, Scotland. However, it was not the most pleasant journey. We started our journey at Kings Cross in London, and we boarded the train to Edinburgh. On the train, I played a lot of games with my friends and my sister (Saanya) and also read a bit of Murder on the Orient Express. I’ll do a book review on that sometime soon!

Anyway, soon after I started reading, the train came to a stop at a train station in a small town in North-East England, Durham. While we were wondering why we stopped there, the captain made an announcement that the train to Edinburgh had been cancelled. Unfortunately, there had been a fatality on the tracks, and we could not go to Edinburgh on this train or on any train from this station.

We were all stressed out, especially because my dad wasn’t even in Durham, but in York, which was an entire hour away from Durham by trajn, since his flight had been delayed. Apparently all the trains going to Edinburgh were stopping. Thankfully, we were able to find a solution. The next station on the route was Newcastle, and it was only a 30 minute car ride away. So, we ended up taking a cab to Newcastle station. Upon arriving there, we were told that there was a train heading to Edinburgh at one of the platforms, so we rushed there. We found some good seats on the train, and just waited. However, we were told that there was no driver on this train, so we had to move to another train that was leaving for Edinburgh. We got up and moved to the other train, and found good seats once again, and then waited. Thankfully, the driver got on and announced that we were about to leave Newcastle and head for Edinburgh. Soon enough, we were off!

We finally reached Edinburgh in the evening. Despite the journey, I really enjoyed Edinburgh! The city was beautiful, and there were so many things to do! We went to Camera Obscura, 6 floors of illusions that were fantastic, Edinburgh Castle, a beautiful place bursting with fascinating history, and the hike to Arthur’s Seat, a gorgeous hike to see the entirety of Edinburgh and the amazing nature of the path. There were so many things that I loved about Edinburgh. The street performers, the architecture. Everything was wonderful, and I really enjoyed it.

However, the trip taught me something, and it’s that there will always be challenges and hard things in life. There will be things that stop us and make it harder to move around. However, the only thing that we can do is solve the problem in front of us. There’s no point worrying about other issues, because that’s not going to help the problem go away. The only thing that we can do, that we have power over, is to resolve the issue in the smartest and most efficient way possible.

Also, after resolving it, we need to move forward. Even though the journey to Edinburgh was horrible, I didn’t let it ruin the rest of my trip. I think that’s the lesson learned out of this journey. I came across a quote that I really like and it said “Don’t let one bad moment ruin your day. Think of it as a bad minute, not a bad day, and you’ll be ok. “ I hope all of you take that approach to problems. See you soon. Bye!
